Which one fits the room

The RowErg is the longer machine by a wide margin: 96 in against 48 in at the same 24 in width12. Concept2's own clearance recommendation makes the gap bigger, 9 x 4 ft for the rower against 60 x 48 in for the bike, because a rowing stroke moves your body along the rail and a pedal stroke does not12. In a 10 x 10 ft spare room the rower takes a full wall; in a one-car garage it sits along the side of the car's lane. The bike fits in a corner with the handlebars toward the room.

Storage flips the answer. Concept2 states the RowErg 'Can be separated into two parts for easy storage' with no tools, and gives the stored size of a standard-leg machine as 25 x 33 x 54 in1. The BikeErg 'Must be stored in its fully assembled state', though Concept2 says its wheels make it easy to roll into place2. If the machine has to disappear between sessions, the rower is the one that can; if it stays put, the bike takes half the floor.

Weight matters for an upstairs room. The standard RowErg is 57 lb and the BikeErg 68 lb12, both light next to a power rack; our floor load guide puts those numbers next to racks and plates.

What the two machines share

Concept2 writes that the BikeErg 'has the same flywheel and Performance Monitor as the Concept2 RowErg'2. Both ship with the PM5, which runs on two D cells and draws power from the spinning flywheel during a workout to extend battery life12, and both connect to Concept2's free ErgData app and to third-party apps through the same open monitor12. Both machines are aluminum-framed, and both pages list the same shipping windows and the same two-year and five-year warranty structure1234.

The differences that are not on the spec sheet are the ones to settle in your head first: a rowing stroke is a whole-body movement that needs a clear lane behind the seat, and a bike is a seated leg movement that does not. Concept2 publishes a BikeErg fit guide for seat-to-pedal range and a RowErg note on inseams of 38 in or more12; check those before choosing legs or a seat.

Before you order

  1. Step 1

Tape the clearance, not the footprint

9 x 4 ft for the RowErg, 60 x 48 in for the BikeErg, on Concept2's figures12. The machine fits in less; you do not.

  2. Step 2

Check the path in and the storage spot

    The RowErg box is 15 x 21.5 x 57 in and the machine separates into 25 x 33 x 54 in for storage1; the BikeErg box is 15 x 26 x 48 in and the bike stays assembled2.

  3. Step 3

    Add the printed shipping

$55 or $60 to the lower 48; more with tall legs or outside the lower 4812.

  4. Step 4

Keep the box for 30 days

Concept2 suggests keeping the packaging during the return window, and the return shipping is at your cost34.

RowErg and BikeErg questions

Which takes less floor?

The BikeErg: 48 x 24 in assembled (8 sq ft) against the RowErg's 96 x 24 in (16 sq ft), and 60 x 48 in of clearance against 9 x 4 ft12. The RowErg wins on storage because it splits in two1.

How much is each one delivered?

To the lower 48 by ground: $990 plus $55 for a standard-leg RowErg, $1,100 plus $60 for a BikeErg, by our addition of Concept2's figures12. Tall legs add $165 to the price and $30 to shipping1.

What is the warranty?

Concept2 states two years on moving parts and the monitor and five years on frame parts for both machines, from the date of purchase from Concept234.

Can I return it?

Within 30 days of shipment for factory-direct sales in the US and Canada; Concept2 refunds the machine and you pay all shipping costs34.

Do I need tall legs or a low seat?

Concept2 says tall legs (20 in seat height) are for easier on-and-off and are not required for taller users; both fit inseams up to 38 in1. The BikeErg's standard seat spans 30.75 to 41 in seat-to-pedal and the low seat 28.75 to 38 in; its fit guide has the detail2.

Which is better?

This page compares published numbers only. Concept2 describes the RowErg as a full-body, low-impact workout and the BikeErg as a cycling experience with a clutch that coasts like a road bike12; which movement you will do three times a week is the deciding fact, and only you have it.
